dimsum Wants You to Join the Spectacular Chingay Parade, Together We Light Up Johor Bahru this February 17

February 14, 2017   –   dimsum

In conjunction with the 2017 Chingay Parade in Johor Bahru, dimsum, the latest subscription video-on-demand service in Malaysia, offering unlimited access to the best Asian content, is honoured to be invited by Teochew Eight Districts Association in Johor Bahru for its first participation in the parade this Friday on February 17.

The Johor Chingay Parade, an annual tradition of the Johor Gu Miao or Old Temple, has been celebrated for 140 years and was declared a National Cultural Heritage since 2012. The two characters Ching and Gay refers to the “Art of Decorating (or Make-up)” in the Min Nan dialect.  For the Chinese residents in Johor, the Lunar New Year only ends once the “Parade of the Deities” is completed. Therefore, on the 21st day of the Lunar New Year, the Johor Gu Miao Johor holds an annual parade for five main deities of the five-main dialect-groups, Hakka, Teochew, Hokkien, Cantonese and Fuchou where they are taken on a tour to bless the city and its people.

To mark dimsum’s first major participation since its launch in November 2016, dimsum will specially bring along a decorated float with a theme “Prosperity”. The float springs from the idea of a sailing boat to indicate a successful year ahead for dimsum, accompanied by five koi fish to represent five concurrent users, one of the key features on dimsum. At the front is the Chinese Zodiac of the Year, a Red Rooster which is also in dimsum’s colour.

To double up the celebration in Johor Bahru, dimsum will run its Chinese New Year Roadshow on the 3rd Floor Concourse at Sutera Mall on February 18 Feb (Saturday) from 1:00pm onwards. During the roadshow, the local Mayao Group Singer will entertain the visitors with three soundtracks from popular dramas available on dimsum, including Chinese Paladin 5, The Dream Makers and Pretty Li Hui Zhen. At the same time, they will also receive exclusive merchandise from dimsum.

dimsum is currently available in Malaysia and Brunei, with subscription priced at only RM15 a month. All members will enjoy 30 days of free trial once subscribe. To access dimsum, download the app from Apple App Store or Google Play Store or stream directly from dimsum.my.
